The Wife & the Widow

You just can’t beat a great crime thriller - it’s the highest selling genre in Australia, and appeals to regular and reluctant readers alike. There’s something about solving a mystery in 300 pages or less that seems to make the world a bit less terrifying - if only briefly.

I recently picked up a copy of ‘The Wife and the Widow’ by Australian author, Christian White - and without a doubt, it’s the best of the genre I’ve read in ages.

Now, don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil anything for you #NoSpoilers #ImNotSatan.

But I will tell you that this is an absolute page-turner, with a truly original plot twist that I didn’t see coming. It led me to have a ‘wait…hang on….what?’ moment - and what’s more satisfying than that?

Well played, Mr White, well played.

Being truly surprised by a story is rare - let’s face it, if you read enough in any genre, you’ll start to see the end coming in any book. There’s nothing particularly wrong with that - it’s comforting - but it’s nice to be taken out of that comfort zone once in a while, before hurrying back in.

Get yourself a copy of this book - you won’t regret it!
