#20in20
It’s safe to say I’m pretty pumped to be entering the Roaring 20’s. They say new decades equal new possibilities, and I’m really hoping those flapper shift dresses make a reappearance (#DressesForFoodLovers).
Of course, entering a new decade encourages you to look deep inside your dark, twisted, bitter soul. To look upon the evil beast residing in its depths and wonder how to distinguish its infinite powers…
No?
Just me?
…
Anywho…
You start making grand plans, envisioning a new, improved version of yourself . You start putting appointments in your newly acquired diary for workouts, self-improvement classes, meditation and yoga (shout out to the team at @SaintBelford and their Curation Diary. Sure, you might only fill it out for a week or two, but it’s a beautiful thing to have #NotSponsored).
But a lot of these goals aren’t realistic are they? Maybe you’re just not the kind of person who’s fit, stretchy, zen and with a good attitude? Maybe YOU are lazy, stressed and angry with perpetually stiff joints! Why fight your basic nature? I say, aim LOWER in your goal setting.
And do I have a tool for you!
IT’S TIME TO GO FOR 20 IN 20!
That’s right. Set a goal to achieve twenty ‘somethings’ this year. But make them easy. REALLY EASY. That way, you’ll get to experience all that self-satisfaction that successful people do, but without all the effort. It will be just like you’re a federal politician, but no one will be Twitter-abusing you. All you have to do is decide on the things you love, and do them with panache. At least twenty times.
You love KFC and Netflix? Dedicate yourself to doing ONLY that for 20 consecutive weekends. I know you can do it.
Love activewear, but not the ‘active’ part? Buy yourself 20 pairs of Michelle Bridge’s leggings and refuse to workout in ANY of them. It’s what she really would have wanted for you.
Whatever your passions, make them your priority, and make them utterly doable #EasyPeasyLemonSqueezy.
My #20in20 is to read twenty books (see the pic at the top of this post for the year’s selection).
For the last six years, I’ve combined full time work with a uni degree and a small design side-gig. I can’t remember the last time I read for pleasure, so I’ve made it my priority this year. Not only because it helps my writing, but also because I really like lying on my bed in a Muumuu with wine, crackers and cheese. And before you come at me, yes, there’s crumbs, and no, I don’t care.
I’m a Maverick.
Now, some people (#pretentious #insufferable) might not think 20 books in a year is particularly impressive. They might think I should aim higher:
“Oh daaahling’ they might say, ‘I read at least 3 tomes in a weekend. Suuurrely you can do better than that?”
Well, no, Mr Fancy-pants ‘literary’ person, I cannot. SOME of us are very busy, actually. You know, with jobs? And Youtube? And Cats to feed…and…watch? We don’t all have YOUR level of free time. So you can keep your opinions to yourself, thanks very much. No one asked you, mate.
The whole point of #20in20 is that I don’t stretch myself.
Now someone bring me my wine. I have goals to meet.
